Pastor Cheryl Indehar’s Introduction

A little background information might be helpful in getting to know me.  I have lived in Minnesota all my life.  I was born and lived most of my life in Saint Paul. My family was a middle class household.  My father worked as a school social worker and my mother was a housewife.  I grew up with 3 brothers, two older and one younger.  Currently, only my younger sibling and I are still alive.  I am single and have no children.  However, I have 7 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews with a great-great on the way.  The role of Auntie Cheryl is one that I have thoroughly relished over the years.

God has blessed me with two careers.  My first career was in law enforcement working as a police officer then sergeant for St. Paul  Police Department.  My work assignments included patrol,  investigation and administration.  I had 8 different assignments within my 29 year career.  During the early part of my career I earned a  Masters in Education. In the latter part of my career, while working full-time, I attended Luther Seminary part-time.  It took me 7 years to graduate with my Masters of Divinity.

On January 19, 2002, I was ordained as a pastor of Word and Sacrament.  My first call was to a church in St. Paul.  I was there for 8 years.  Half the time I was there I was working full-time at the police department and part-time at the church.  Eventually I retired in August 2006 from law enforcement and resigned from my first call in January 2009.

In the summer of 2009, I took my first trip to Tanzania with a church group from the Twin Cities. The next spring I went back and taught three Theology classes at the University of Iringa. Tanzania is a beautiful country filled with wonderful people. When I came back I took classes to prepare me for Interim ministry.  I have been doing Interim Ministry in South East Minnesota Synod for the past 6 years.  I have worked at 4 different sites with 6 different churches.  I finished my last Interim in August.
